Eczema Society of Canada collaborates with SkIN Canada to further research that matters to patients

Research is the cornerstone of advancing treatment and care, and ESC is pleased to collaborate with SkIN Canada to support patient-focused eczema research right here in Canada.

We recently spoke with Dr. An-Wen Chan, a dermatologist, clinician investigator, and professor who also serves as the committee chair of SkIN Canada. He spoke about SkIN Canada and how their mission aims to benefit the lives of those living with various skin disorders, like eczema.

“SkIN Canada is a national network that brings together expertise from across the country. Its mission is to drive patient-relevant research with the aim of improving skin health for Canadians.” Dr. Chan explained that SkIN Canada is focused on patient-centric research, “Throughout all our activities, the patient voice informs everything we do, from our governance to our research projects. We have patient collaborators involved at every level, as we want to ensure the needs of patients is prioritized and addressed through our research.”

ESC has supported the eczema research efforts of SkIN Canada by engaging in the priority setting phase of their program. “We are so proud to support these incredible researchers, right here in Canada, who are focused on advancing care for eczema patients, and most importantly, who are willing to listen to the patient experience,” says Amanda Cresswell-Melville, Executive Director of Eczema Society of Canada.

This year, SkIN Canada is focused on building a national network for clinicians and scientists to share their research and grow the skin research community. Dr. Chan tells us, “We want to hear from you – the patients with eczema – as we want to know what is important to you and address it through research here in Canada.”
