Top considerations for participating in an eczema clinical trial
![]()
Clinical trials are essential to advancing eczema treatment innovation. If you’re thinking about participating, there are many factors to consider, including the potential benefits and risks. Clinical trials and treatment advancements wouldn’t be possible without patient participation. We asked ESC Ambassadors who have taken part in clinical trials to share their insights.
Top clinical trial participation considerations:
- Access to new treatments – Trying new medications when other treatments haven’t worked
- Personalized medical care – Being supported by a dedicated clinical team to closely monitor your eczema
- Contributing to eczema drug advancements – Being part of a drug that can potentially improve patient lives
- Medication side effects – Understanding that you may experience side effects and understanding the potential risks
- Travel – How far away is the study? Is there free parking? Is the building accessible?
- Time commitment – What is the length of the trial? How long are appointments? What time of day are the appointments?
- Compensation – What costs are covered? How and when to submit expense claims, and when to expect payment?
- Placebo – How you might feel if you’re placed in the placebo group?
“I was so inspired to participate in a clinical trial and felt like I was really helping make a difference for others living with eczema.”
