Introducing We Feel Itchy! Living with Eczema
For many parents and caregivers supporting children with eczema, finding resources created specifically for kids can be a difficult task. With the help of knowledgeable contributors from across Canada, ESC created this easy-to-read picture book that brings a compassionate approach to helping children understand they’re not alone in dealing with eczema. The book also displays a range of skin tones across the spectrum, including skin of colour. Eczema can look different depending on a child’s skin tone, and ESC wanted young people living with eczema to see a broader range of skin tones.
ESC’s Executive Director, Amanda Cresswell-Melville shared her perspective: “ESC is so pleased to have collaborated with a diverse group of healthcare providers and patient volunteers to create a book for children living with eczema with an emphasis on kindness, compassion, and diversity. ESC is grateful to our dermatology, pediatrics, and psychology experts who contributed their input, and to the patient and caregiver contributors as well.”
Toronto-based dermatologist Dr. Marissa Joseph shares how important representation of skin of colour is in patient resources: “There is a lack of representation in dermatology and eczema care for skin of color. Resources like this help to illuminate the differences of skin condition presentations across skin tones, and the need for better understanding and inclusion of patients across the skin spectrum.”
We hope this fun and educational resource helps to show Canadian children living with Eczema that they can live a happy and healthy life.
