ESC’s Eczema Advocacy in Action

ESC is working hard to advocate and raise awareness for our community!

ESC Advocacy in Action image

Advocating for the eczema community remains central to our mission, and we’re proud to have represented our community with our focus on improved access to care and improved access to eczema treatments.

In 2024, we continued to reach out to private and public players – those are the groups that pay for drugs through insurance plans or the government. We are proud to report that our patient community has had many wins this year, with a number of new treatments available to patients.

This spring, we partnered with MedAccess BC to meet with decision-makers in British Columbia. We’ve also made strides in advocating for treatments — including injectables, topicals, and pills.

Thank you to our eczema warriors and caregivers for sharing their stories. We couldn’t have achieved these successes without your input. See how our recent wins are driving real change for people with eczema!

Eczema Treatment News:

  1. Dupixent (Dupilumab) is now being covered in provinces and jurisdictions across Canada, but we’re still waiting on coverage for the youngest patient group aged six months and older.
  1. Adtralza (tralokinumab) has been approved for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, and ESC was proud to share patient input with decision-makers. The good news is that private insurance is covering this medication. The bad news is that public drug plans are not.
  1. ESC was proud to provide patient input and advocate for new treatments in the oral JAK inhibitor class. Now, provinces and jurisdictions across Canada are providing coverage for the new atopic dermatitis drugs Cibinqo (Abrocitinib) and Rinvoq (Upadacitinb). Private plans are also providing coverage.
  1. ESC was proud to provide patient input on the need for new treatments, and Quebec has decided to provide coverage for the new atopic dermatitis drug, Ebglyss (Lebrikizumab).
